Many Sundays we pray this prayer, The Wesleyan Covenant Prayer:
In August of 1755, almost two decades after John Wesley after his experience at Aldersgate Street and the launching of the Methodist movement, Wesley noted that his people seemed to be faltering in their faith. He introduced a Covenant Service he adapted from the writings of Puritan pastor Richard Alleine.
We invite your attention to the emails coming from the pastor over the next 21 days. They will include scripture to read, questions for reflection, and a concluding prayer. The guide for our journey is the Holy Spirit and we will follow in the path prepared by Chris Folmsbee in The Wesley Prayer Challenge (2020).
Pastor Allen will gather folks interested in learning more on Wednesdays at 10:00 AM and 6:30 PM on Jluy 10, 17, and 24. If you want to purchase a book, follow this link for The Wesley Prayer Challenge.
I am no longer my own, but thine.
Put me to what thou wilt, rank me with whom thou wilt.
Put me to doing, put me to suffering.
Let me be employed for thee or laid aside for thee,
exalted for thee or brought low for thee.
Let me be full, let me be empty.
Let me have all things, let me have nothing.
I freely and heartily yield all things to thy pleasure and disposal.
And now, O glorious and blessed God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
thou art mine, and I am thine.
So be it.
And the covenant which I have made on earth, let it be ratified in heaven. Amen.
