Sisters and brothers:
Today we traveled to visit with the Amani (Love) group in the village of Mituntu. The Collins family, Jenny and her son Logan are traveling with us, sponsor this working group. We had a grand time as we gathered in the Mituntu Methodist Church to share stories of joyful successes. This group is in the middle of their third year and we are hearing stories of shamed orphans transforming into entrepreneurs as farmers, mechanics, seamstress and tailoring, shop owners, and … The group offering Jenny and Logan kikois (a cloth wrapped around the body) to show how the young people had moved from shamed to loved under the cover of the Logan’s family’s love. And there was singing and dancing.
We then visited the shambas (farms) of four group members, visited another group member’s home, shopped at a tailor shop, and visited one of the mechanics busy at work repairing a motorcycle. The adventure for us came when one of two Toyota Land Cruisers busted some part of the front wheel drive train. We abandoned the vehicle and piled into the other trucks to make our way back to Maua. Our drivers, George and Nicholas, assured us that the truck would be repaired and ready for us in the morning. They had that “I know a guy” kind of vibe going, so we will just have to wait and see.
Karen Barkman and Chris Droessler are taking lots of pictures and shooting videos. We will try to put out as much as possible in the coming days.
Peace, Allen Bingham
