Sisters and brothers:

Yesterday, June 12th, our team travelled from Kisii to several local villages. The first two stops were to a level 4 and level 3 medical clinics. Haymount UMC over two special “Christmas to Remember” offerings raised funds to provide solar power to the maternity wards of both clinics. This means that women no longer need to deliver their babies by flashlight—think about iPhone flashlights guiding the birth of a child.

In addition, both clinics were also enabled to keep a good supply of vaccines refrigerated. And wells were dug to provide clean running water to the clinics. (Otherwise they depended on rain water collection or delivery of clean water by truck).

The afternoon featured a visit with a village care group with a lesson in family planning. Then we walked a short distance to another gathering of volunteer medical workers where they were instructed on how to use the blood pressure machines and thermometers to help their villagers know when to head to a clinic or hospital.

It was great to see how our strategic gifts are providing real change to these villages. The KIKOP organization in partnership with Impact Global Health Alliance is already tracking significant reductions in infant and maternal mortality.

Peace, Allen Bingham
