Christian discipleship is a vital part of a developing and dynamic faith.  At Haymount UMC we encourage everyone - children, youth and adults - to be involved in discipleship and study opportunities.  Below you will find all of our current Bible study and small group opportunities.  We encourage you to find one that interests you and join in for the fellowship and learning each week.

Sundays
  • New Sanctuary Small Group.  11:00 am - Noon, Room #217. Ongoing
  • "Let's Talk" - 10:45am, New Life Center. This is a discussion group that will gather after the 9:45 worship service to discuss the sermon. Ongoing
  • God and Me (2nd—3rd grade) / God and Family (4th—5th grade) - Both classes meet at 3:30 on and are open to all 2nd-5th grade students. Classes end on February 5th and students will receive their awards on February 12th. Pre-registration is required—email Dorothy Funkhouser (dorothy@haymountumc.com) to sign up. Begins January 8th
  • Parent Hang-Out—5:45-7:15pm, Room 227A and 227B—The purpose of the group is to provide an opportunity to get away from parenting for just a little while. The group will be open every week, but is very much a “come when you want” group. Activities may include board games, potluck dinners, movies, or even venting sessions. We invite you come check it out while your students are in LIGHT (K-5th grade) or ECHO (6th-12th grade). Open to all parents.   • Young Adults—Young adults meets every other Sunday night at 7pm at various members’ homes. We will start the new year off studying Adam Hamilton’s Making Sense of the Bible. Please contact Pastor Ben at benjamin.wolf@haymountumc.com. Begins January 8

  • Christian Believer "Lite" - 9:30-11:00am, Room 209. This group will gather to watch the videos from Christian Believer and discuss implications for today. No homework required! Taught by Dorothy Funkhouser. Begins September 12

Wednesdays

  • Book Club.  6:00 - 7:30 pm, Room #217.  Led by Paige McMillan (contact Paige at mackpaige@nc.rr.com for more information).
  • Growing Spiritually. 6:00pm, Room 209. This group will work through four books that teach about nurturing personal spirituality: Soul FeastDiscovering our Spiritual IdentityHoly Spirit Here and Now, and Three Simple Rules. Taught by Betty Lou Watson. Book cost: $45. Ongoing
  • Book Study: Fear of the Other (Will Willmon) - Room 228, 6:00pm. In this no nonsense book, Willimon invites readers to consider the gospel command to love (and not merely tolerate) those considered to be “other” or outside mainstream Christian culture. Willimon brings a Wesleyan perspective to bear on what may be the hardest thing for people of faith to do: keeping and loving the "Other" as they are - without any need for them to become like us. Taught by Rev. Jaye White (NC Conference Outreach Ministry Coordinator). Book Cost: $13. Pre-registration appreciated: dorothy@haymountumc.com. Begins January 4
  • Disciple 1: Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study. 6:00pm, Room 224. This 34-week study gives the Old and New Testaments equal time and emphasizes the whole of the Bible as a revelation from God. The class uses a combination of scholarly work, personal Bible reading and study, and dynamic group discussions to facilitate deeper Biblical understanding. Taught by Rev. Ben Wolf. Book cost: $40. Ongoing
  • Disciple 2: Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study. 6:00pm, Room 213. This 34-week study covers Genesis and Exodus (Old Testament) and Luke and Acts (New Testament). Completion of Disciple 1 is a prerequisite. Taught by Phil Stamm. Book cost: $40. Ongoing

Thursdays

  • Early Morning Bible Study.  Ongoing.  7:45 - 8:45am, Room #101 (Fellowship Hall). This group meets weekly to work through whole books of the Bible. Taught by Julian Norris.
  • Men's Bible Study.  Ongoing.  Noon - 1:00pm, New Life Center.  This group meets to share lunch and fellowship while working through books of the Bible.  Lunch provided by the church; cost is $3.00.

Fridays

  • Table Tennis.  6:30 - 8:30 pm, YAC (Youth Activity Center) Gym, 1900 Fort Bragg Rd. Did you know that ping-pong is the 2nd most widely played sport in the world?  Now you can learn how to play.  Led by USATT umpire Richie Perez.  All equipment is provided for free!  For more information, contact Richie at cubinican@gmail.com.
